ECZEMA

14 June 2009

There still is hope. So many of you have heard that food does not cause eczema, I remember my family MD telling me that exact statement for my youngest. Yet, please look at your options, in some children's circumstances there can be a relationship between what your child is eating and their eczema. Check out Dr. Nari Pidutti's latest article in Now You Knowbabypurity.com/now/2009/06/does-your-baby-have-eczema-there-is-still-hope.html

BPA, COCA-COLA, DEL MONTE AND OUR CHILDREN

4 June 2009

I appreciate the latest information from EWG which is attached. I suggest you read the notes they uncovered from a meeting of large US companies (Coke, Del Monte) discussing how to keep BPA active and in a positive light. They request we go to these companies and demand some change, which I agree is a great idea. Although is this who we should be focussed on with our demand for change?

Healthy Mother, Healthy Baby

26 May 2009

One of the key factors to a healthy child is to ensure you have a healthy pregnancy. Dr. Montroy writes more in Now You Know about some top nutrients a mother wants to ensure she has during pregnancy. Probiotics, DHA, Folate, Choline and Vitamin D are some important nutrients you will want to read more about at :  babypurity.com/now/nowyouknow.htm

Toddlers and VITAMIN D

8 May 2009

We just had to come back to a quick review of Vitamin D again. There was a recent article in our local Vancouver news of toddlers lacking in Vitamin D. For many of you giving your children goat's milk versus cows milk, they are not receiving any Vitamin D in the milk (note that cows milk alone does not have enough either) and if your weather is anything like ours here in Vancouver your children are not receiving very much sunshine. Add these two factors together and you may want to think about Vitamin D being added to your children's routine.

FOOD AFFECTING YOUR MOODS

22 April 2009

For me, lack of food can definitely cause me to be irritable. Sometimes I have wondered if what I ate the evening before has affected my mood the next day. You can probably think of how your child's behavior has changed after a certain food or drink.

We have heard the effects of sugar on behavior but what about the effects of wheat and dairy and how that may alter our moods? There was a recent article in the Calgary Herald discussing this specific topic and stating how food DOES affect our MOODS:

NATURAL TREATMENTS FOR THOSE NASTY COLDS

2 April 2009

How is it that just when you think all your children's colds are done they quickly come back again! I thought it was spring. Turns out this time of the year is still a nasty time for colds and I am sure our awful weather is not helping the situation.

Dr. Pidutti has written an excellent article on some natural treatments for your child's cold.  She recommends hydrotherapy, vitamins, keeping hydrated and watching your foods, especially sugar. I remember growing up on lots of juice when I had a cold, interesting to note that the sugar actually suppresses your immunity.

CHILDREN AND CELLPHONES

25 March 2009

We didn't see the dangers in smoking years ago, could that dangerous naivety be true with our cellphones?

ORGANIC FRUITS AND VEGGIES

11 March 2009

Sometimes it's hard to always buy organic. I find the fruit or vegetable may not be available in organic or it looks awful and near it's due date. When choosing your fruits and vegetables it helps to know the ones to stay clear of.

ALWAYS A GREAT IDEA... READING A BOOK

27 February 2009

I am sure most would agree a book is always a great thing to turn to. Books become apart of our lives when we are on vacation, relaxing before bed or just wanting to take some time out. It's such a great habit to read as an adult, as a reader we learn about other people's lives, historical events or have a quick escape.

Since reading is so important as adults it's also important to ensure we develop this with our children. We came across some great books that are written by a local author, here in BC. Hope you get a chance to check them out:
