HEY MOMS! HOW ARE YOU FEELING SINCE HAVING A BABY?
This site is usually focussed on our precious children but who is brining these precious bundles into the world? probably YOU, the mom.
I think it is time we covered the topic of "Mom's Moods and Health Since Having a Baby" in more detail as it seems to be one that I have been dealing with and many new moms are struggling for answers to changes in their emotional life.
For me, my "lightbulb" moment came when I almost fainted and started seeing wavy lines in front of me. I thought to myself, "okay maybe it is time to finally look after me." My oldest daughter is now five, youngest is two and as many of you can probably relate, mommy's health is secondary.
I went in to see my local Naturopath after this slightly scary moment, where I told her about some of my other symptoms; really tired in the morning, irritable, low energy, hard to concentrate and a constant dull headache. Of course the main scare for me was the whole eye site issue but as we chatted I realized how I wasn't feeling too great.
She started telling me about the importance of our adrenal glands. When we, active mothers, stress out our bodies, such as having children... a good stress, but a stress. We create stress by lack of sleep, interrupted sleep, emotional tension and skipped meals (well I know I am guilty on all those). Those stress levels cause our cortisone levels to go up which in turn brings down our DHEA. If our DHEA is constantly brought down we can begin to affect our hormone levels, such as progesterone, estrogene and testosterone. We get our bodies to this point and then it's hard, yet still achievable, to turn things around. Now in this scenario, of hormonal imbalance you are dealing with weight gain, depression and infertility.
After our discussion she reminded me to get back on my Omega 3s, probiotics, multivitamins and EAT four meals a day!! (Yes, I know what you are thinking will I gain weight! Well, I must also note that I eat chocolate at night, bad girl that I am. So thus is probably the reason for my dull headaches in the morning. So instead of chocolate, I will eat food).
My next visit was to go over my spit test, which was tested in a lab to look at the health of my adrenal glands. I was informed that I do have adrenal issues and that I need to begin supporting my adrenal glands BEFORE I have a hormonal imbalance. So now, friends and mothers, now begins the fun part, doing what my Naturopath tells me and sticking too it!
